Best time to see the Blue Cave

When the blue is brightest, which months are calmest, and how weather affects the cave.

Updated 1 min read

Two things matter: the season (calm seas, boats running) and the time of day (the angle of the sun).

Time of day

The effect depends on sunlight entering the underwater opening. Aim for roughly 10:00–14:00, with late morning usually the strongest. Cloudy days give a much weaker blue.

Month by month

MonthsConditions
April – MayFewer boats, cooler sea, quieter cave
JuneLong days, good light, crowds building
July – AugustPeak season: busiest queues at midday
SeptemberWarm sea, calmer crowds — often ideal
OctoberFewer departures; weather more variable

Weather

The low entrance closes in rough seas. Southerly swell is the most common reason for closures, so keep a spare day in your plans if the cave is a must.
